Which Texas Counties Had the Most Truck Crashes?

According to TxDOT’s 2025 CMV Involved Crashes and Injuries by County data, Harris County recorded 5,913 commercial vehicle crashes, the highest total among Texas counties listed in the data. Dallas County followed with 3,778 crashes, while Bexar County recorded 2,581 and Tarrant County recorded 2,183.

These higher totals coincide with major population centres and significant freight activity. However, looking only at the number of crashes does not tell the whole story.

Fatalities Tell Another Part of the Story

The supplied 2025 county data shows differences in deaths per 100 crashes. Harris County recorded 43 deaths across 5,913 crashes, while Dallas County recorded 37 deaths across 3,778 crashes.

Some counties with fewer crashes reported higher deaths-per-100-crashes figures. Midland recorded 11 deaths across 536 crashes, or approximately 2.05 deaths per 100 crashes. Ector County reported 9 deaths across 379 crashes, equivalent to approximately 2.37 deaths per 100 crashes. These figures illustrate why both crash volume and outcomes can be important when examining commercial vehicle collisions.
